In my perception Latour accelerates and translates the work of Roland Barthes to the domain of the social sciences. The careful semiotic descriptions of media appearances that Barthes carried out in “Mythologies suivi de Le Mythe, aujourd’hui” (1957), resonate with the deconstruction and careful descriptions of certain actors and their network as they are facilitated by Actor Network Theory.
