In the United Nations there was a debate about the ‘free flow of information’ versus a ‘more balanced flow of information’. The Unites States of America strongly supported ‘free flow’ since it would open markets for their film and television industry, amongst other things. Out of fear of ‘cultural imperialism’ the communist states, like the USSR and Cuba, strongly opposed this idea.
